Landmark Files (lmx) on Nseries Devices

Click on the blue marker in the above Google map, then scan the data matrix using your N95, N93, N80, or N73.

What you will download is a landmark file (lmx file). LMX files are small, simple XML documents, but on S60 3rd edition devices they are automatically read as geographic information that can be saved to your device and then shown on a map. This mapping software is built in to the N95, but any S60 3rd edition devices can download the beta for free from smart2go.

There’s a lot of possibility here for what you could do, but the data matrix example shows how easily you could display information on the web and then download it directly to your device. Next, I’m going to see if I can get this working entirely within the mobile browser.

UPDATE: mobile browsers can just download the LMX file

Now that’s an impressive demonstration. I had to print-out the data matrix as I couldn’t read if from the monitor, but then my N95 read it, downloaded the .lmx file, and showed me a map. If I let it, it would probably navigate me there, despite it being 3,598.9 miles away.

    What I’ve done here is:
    1) create the LMX file
    2) upload the LMX file to my webserver
    3) make a data matrix code from the URL for the file

If you’re going to offer LMX files from your own server, then in order for them to work you need to make sure that you have the correct MIME type for LMX files. Specifically:
.lmx extension requires this MIME type
    application/vnd.nokia.landmarkcollection+xml

Bloody brilliant information – especially with the barcode generator!

I’m currently building a geocaching tool with this information – I’ll let you know when it’s finished.

    Cheers

Hi can you tell me how you did this. I have a lot of info for Prague gigs which I would like to share via the web (Google Maps) and via barcode and Xml file. How do I crate an Xml and the barcode for it from my google map points? I would appreciate if you send me a short discription how you did this to my e-mail. Looks great, respect!
