RepresentedBy Facebook app launches public beta

My last entry about Google AppEngine and Facebook Applications was written during the development of RepresentedBy, a Facebook application which is still in a rough beta state, but has finally been opened up to the general public.

The goal of RepresentedBy is to:

  • To increase civic engagement.
  • To increase personal awareness of the legislators representing you in Congress and how they are voting on important issues.
  • To share information about your representatives with your friends, and to encourage civic engagement among your peers.
  • To provide an open source learning template for Facebook applications developed with Google App Engine.

The app is still in beta, but once it’s ready for release sometime in late March, then the source code will be made available. In the meantime, please check out the application and let me know what bugs you find, and any problems that you encounter.

    Hello;

    I am a big fan of your work, I have recently started exploring iPhone development, seeing you develop an iPhone app too made me feel like we are walking similiar paths.

    I develop Facebook applications using php, but unix server management takes a lot of time. Also applications can not grow indefinitely.

    Thats why I started learning about GAE, stand-alone its perfect. But adding Facebook into the equation makes it harder to solve.

    I couldn’t develop an application without learning python,gae,django and pyFacebook completely. And I can’t find much time because of school.

    It would be really accelerating if you can share the source code of your application. I would be glad if you can mail the code of your application to me.

    A single server can handle 200K DAU’s, do you think it’s worth the effort to learn GAE/Python/Django to reach higher simultaneous user capacities?

    I gave up on this idea months ago when I first had it. But seeing you have managed to do it gave me a new hope.

    Personally I don’t use language/framework specific stuff much. It would be great to have a simple webapp facebook library, do you think pyFacebook can be tweaked that way easily? As far as I see user logging is the main problem. pyFacebook seem to depend on the cookie structure of django..

    Thanks in Advance for your reply, I can’t wait to hear your opinion.
